Evaluation study published in HESSD
August 14, 2017 — Our global-scale precipitation dataset evaluation study has just been published in HESSD. Check it out here!
Release of MSWEP v2
July 23, 2017 — Version 2 of the retrospective MSWEP has finally been released. This version contains numerous changes in the data sources as well as the merging algorithm, and as a result markedly different precipitation estimates, especially at the daily and 3-hourly time scales (notably less drizzle and higher peaks). The paper describing and validating version 2 is currently in preparation. Go to the MSWEP page to download the new version.
MSWEP V1.2: Ocean coverage
November 28, 2016 — Version 1.2 of MSWEP has been released. MSWEP now also provides experimental data for ocean areas, and the record has been extended to 2015. See the documentation for the full list of changes and go to the MSWEP page to download the new version.
MSWEP v1.1: netCDF formatting update
August 2, 2016 — Version 1.1 of MSWEP has been released. The actual data have not changed, the only changes are in the netCDF formatting. First, we changed the order of the variables from “lon, time, lat” to “time, lat, lon”, which should solve some of the problems people have had with reading the data. Second, we fixed the time variable for the daily data, which was mistakenly offset by 1 day. Head on over to the MSWEP page to download the new version.
New 3-hourly MSWEP netCDF
June 17, 2016 — The 3-hourly MSWEP netCDFs have been updated on the FTP. A temperature mask was applied by accident, which resulted in missing values in northern latitudes. The daily netCDFs have not changed. Apologies for the inconvenience.
GLEAM V3.0 released
June 6, 2016 — GLEAM is a state-of-the-art hydrological model designed to estimate evaporation and root-zone soil moisture at the global scale. Outputs from the new model version (v3.0), which uses MSWEP as precipitation forcing, have recently been made available. Visit the GLEAM website for more information and for downloading the data.
MSWEP news @ JRC website
June 3, 2016 — The Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published a news item about the MSWEP dataset. Check it out here.
MSWEP PAPER PUBLISHED
May 30, 2016 — The HESSD paper describing our new global precipitation dataset MSWEP (Multi-Source Weighted-Ensemble Precipitation) is now online, and version 1.0 of the dataset is now available for download. Head over to the MSWEP page for details!
Website launch
May 29, 2016 — This website was created to serve as a home for a number of datasets related to global hydrological modeling.
